Care For A Pair of Fizzy Goblets?

Heyy y’all. I have a little something new new for you J I had a chance to connect with the good folks at Fizzy Goblet all the way in the motherland. Pretty awesome, right? I love Indian fashion, the prints, embroidery, the rich history and traditions that continue to inspire designs. One thing that makes Indian fashion unique is companies like Fizzy Goblet, one of India’s favorite handcrafted jutti designers. They are all about mixing the new with the old for a fun, contemporary look. Launched just six years ago, Fizzy Goblet is making waves in the Indian footwear market and has been featured in magazines like Elle India.

Tell us about Fizzy Goblet? We use bright colors and we make bold statements. We’re about subtle textures, intricate patterns and patent prints. Fizzy G is for the curious and experimental, for the light hearted and the passionate, we are for everyday adventures, taken one step at a time.

Fizzy Goblet is a such a fun, unique name, how did you come up with it? A love for Harry potter, wine and all things fun.

What has been your biggest “wow” since you launched Fizzy Goblet? I think every time a customer comes back to get another pair or tell us how much they love their Fizzy Gs, is a wow moment.

What surprises you most about your brand and what you have been able to accomplish? The fact people are so open and in fact hungry to try new concepts and designs that we set out to create.

The design team is very creative. I love the various styles, mix of prints and materials. How did the brogue juttis come about? It goes with the whole brand concept of merging the old with the new and the traditional with the contemporary. They are essentially juttis which have been worn in India for years, but we wanted to add another modern turn by using the brogue design but still use Indian fabrics like Ikat to create a completely new style.

Is this your most popular style? Yes, it is one of our more popular designs.

What would you say inspires the design team? Anything and everything! Inspiration lies in something as simple as a whimsical looking tea set or a colour combination spotted on a window on the streets of Bombay. It could literally be anything.

What new prints and styles should we look out for this yer? Playful is a key direction for us in 2016 with an emphasis on boho chic with interesting, unexpected elements.

For the young designers and brand entrepreneurs what is the best piece of advice that you would like to share with them? Stay true to what you believe in in terms of your design aesthetic. Don’t blindly follow trends.

Wisdom from a true fashion guru. Thanks Fizzy G! If you’d like to order a pair, they do have international shipping. Cheers to mixing fits for Indian inspired looks!

Blendian Swag

Hey y’all… I’m going to start mixing it up a bit and doing some fashion posts. A couple of my sisters will be joining me too. Be on the lookout! 🙂

It’s only right that my first fashion post is for Mother India. I love mixing traditional Indian wear for Indian/American inspired looks. My sis and I went to see Phantom of the Opera. We both wore traditional Indian clothes as separates and put a “western” twist on our outfits.

Nadia (left) is wearing gold churidar and I’m (right) wearing the top of a salwar kameez as a dress. Nadia mixed her fit with an oversized black sweater, a hand embroidered scarf and choker from one of my favorite jewelry designers, Suhani Pittie, from my dad’s hometown, Hyderabad.

Charminar’s Beauty + Mongolian Dinner

HYDERABAD, India. An amazing afternoon adventure to Charminar with the fam + the first and most delicious Mongolian dinner I’ve ever had. After breakfast and visiting my uncle and aunt, my dad’s eldest sister (post to come!), we headed to Charminar, one of Hyderabad’s most famous landmarks. It is a beautiful, historic monument, also referred to as the Old Town and also known for it’s amazing shopping. I thought Shilparamam was great, Charminar topped it off even through the rain. Charminar had the most beautiful bangles, jewelry, jutti and architecture. We totally didn’t have enough time here and the rain kind of cut us short. I’m glad we had a chance to experience this gorgeous old town at all. (Thanks Daddy!)

After Charminar, we rushed home for a very special Mongolian dinner. All prepared by my super cool aunty. Huge props to her. It was delicious.

Nanking Restaurant in Hyderabad

Another one of my favorite experiences on my trip to the motherland. Involves food of course 🙂 My mom and dad hosted a wonderful Chinese lunch at one of his good friend’s restaurants, Nanking Restaurant. It was a mini reunion for my dad and some of his old friends and family came too. Loved it!

Chinese food in India, some of the best I’ve ever had!  My dad chose quite the tasting menu for us. We started with fresh salad and dumpling soup, vegetable rolls, moved on to several meats, ginger fish, fried rice, noodles and lots more.

India Travels Continued! M.A. Ideal School and Shilparamam

Ahh, ok soo I totally should’ve written this forever ago. Buut, here I am picking up from my last post about food and the Secunderabad Club.

HYDERABAD, India. MONDAY morning (10/21 I think) we went to M.A. Ideal school in the outskirts of Hyderabad. This was definitely one of the most rewarding and meaningful things I did while I was in India.

Nadia met the founder, Muhammed Anwar, a few weeks before she left for India. Can I say nothing but God? After meeting him, Nad planned a family visit to his school to donate school supplies on behalf of her company once she got in town.
A little background about the M.A. Ideal schools: Mr. Anwar began the M.A. Ideal school chain in 1987. He started a low-cost private high school with 34 students in a small, rented building in Hyderabad. Now, there are currently 10 schools located in Hyderabad’s slums.  All schools are coeducational; teaching is in English; and the target market is low-income families. Talk about having a big heart and being true servant, this man is a great example.
Mr. Anwar welcomed us so warmly, gave us a tour of the school and sat down and shared some history and his vision with us. WOW. So much to share about this visit. It was an eye opening experience. Sharing some pics below, I think it will help you understand. The kids were beautiful, so eager to learn, so disciplined, the structure of the classes, the kindness of the teachers…everything was so orderly. Most impressive is that Mr. Anwar is running this just off his love, faith, desire to make change happen and the smallest bit of resources. He mentioned that they had never received any donations in the 26 years of his existence. It costs $2-5 USD per month for the students to attend his school, and that is a struggle for many parents in the neighborhoods he serves. Note to self: Set big goals. Accomplish them. Give back. Make no excuses.

Words can’t even express how blessed we are. Don’t you want to bless others! Philippians 2:3-4

Uber long morning but so worth it. We finally made it back to my aunt’s place late afternoon, had a late lunch then left to go shopping at Shilparamam, this amazing market village with authentic Indian arts and crafts, clothing. One of those bargaining market places, amazinggg. Loved walking around seeing the different items, handmade rugs, pashminas, bangles…and on and on 🙂 Yepp…reminiscing, I wanna go back.

Please keep Mr. Anwar, his family and the M.A. Ideal school in your prayers. For provision, strength and guidance 🙂

Mother India…I’m home!

Image

HYDERABAD, INDIA. Mother India, merii ghar men hoon! Hindi for “I’m home.” I landed FRIDAY morning around 3:45AM after 20+ hours of traveling. (Thank goodness for good seat mates on the plane. No crazy stories here..just a lot of loud babies crying.) Sidenote: sweatshirt, oversized tee, comfy pants…best travel fit.

You can imagine how happy I was to finally touch down in Hyderabad. I walked off of the plane soo excited, quickly went to baggage claim, customs, etc. to go meet my dad/mom who were picking me up from the airport. Mini reunion in India 🙂 I hadn’t seen them since the end of August. We finally get home to my aunty’s place around 5:30AM. I get ready for bed and surprisingly knock out until 10ishAM…No jet lag! Hollerrr.

I woke up to say hi to the fam and eat breakfast: fresh fruit – custard apple (it’s not at all like the apple that you’re thinking of, buutt…new fav!), idli, sambar, chutney…wish I had taken more pics for y’all! Everything was so yummy.

After breakfast, we all headed out for the day, aunty took me/mom saree shopping to a designer nearby, errands, dr visit for my sprained ankle (womp…but I went to an amazing tendon, bone, joint specialist. 3 more weeks til I’m back to normal :-/), met up at home for lunch, went for tea at a famous restaurant called Paradise (phenom! Iranian chai is what it’s called)…and in the evening, went go karting at Runway 9 with the family. I heard some great stories about my cousins and how they were champs in the Indian Go Karting world…SO MUCH FUN.

SATURDAY morning. It is so beautiful here. I’m enjoying every bit of being here. I woke up early to pray and get some work done. It’s so peaceful. My aunty came out and started doing yoga/meditation. She’s pretty legit. I’m sitting, working on my laptop, and I look up and see her in sirsasana pose (headstand). I definitely have to join her the rest of the time I’m here. She wakes up everyday and does yoga and meditation…yes to healthy living!

I took a break from work and walked outside on the terrace to the view below. God loves us so. Took a few moments to take it all in, the morning prayers, the man across the way doing laps on his rooftop, the beautiful sunset. Pure amazingness. Thank you God for love!

It’s amazing. As you can tell, I’m LOVING every bit of it 🙂 More shopping, more food, more Hyderabadi livin
